Carbon Emissions Results
Based on your inputs for a Sedan electric vehicle:
Annual EV Carbon Emissions: | 1,440 kg CO2 (1.44 metric tons) |
Annual Gasoline Vehicle Emissions: | 4,277 kg CO2 (4.28 metric tons) |
Annual CO2 Savings: | 2,837 kg CO2 (2.84 metric tons) |
Emissions Reduction: | 66.3% reduction |
Equivalent Trees Planted: | 129 trees per year |
Lifetime Savings (10 years): | 28,370 kg CO2 (28.4 metric tons) |
Here are the formulas used in the Electric Vehicle Carbon Calculator:
- Electric Vehicle Annual CO2 Emissions:
EV Emissions (kg CO2) = (Annual Mileage × EV Efficiency × Grid Carbon Intensity) ÷ 100,000
Where:- Annual Mileage is in miles
- EV Efficiency is in kWh/100 miles
- Grid Carbon Intensity is in g CO2/kWh
- Division by 100,000 converts from grams to kilograms and accounts for the kWh/100 miles unit
- Conventional Vehicle Annual CO2 Emissions:
Conventional Emissions (kg CO2) = (Annual Mileage ÷ MPG) × 8.887
Where:- Annual Mileage is in miles
- MPG is miles per gallon
- 8.887 is the kg of CO2 produced per gallon of gasoline burned
- Annual CO2 Savings:
Savings (kg CO2) = Conventional Emissions - EV Emissions
- Equivalent Trees Planted:
Trees = Savings ÷ 22
Where:- 22 represents the approximate kg of CO2 absorbed by one tree annually
The calculator applies these formulas to show the environmental impact difference between electric vehicles and conventional gasoline vehicles based on the user’s inputs.
