Here’s the formula used by the car pollution carbon calculator:
- Annual Fuel Consumption Calculation:
- Total Fuel Used (L) = Annual Mileage (km) × Fuel Efficiency (L/100km) ÷ 100
- CO₂ Emissions Calculation:
- Annual CO₂ Emissions (kg) = Total Fuel Used (L) × Emission Factor (kg CO₂/L)
- Emission Factors by Fuel Type:
- Petrol: 2.31 kg CO₂ per liter
- Diesel: 2.68 kg CO₂ per liter
- LPG: 1.51 kg CO₂ per liter
- CNG: 1.19 kg CO₂ per liter
- Final Result:
- The calculated emissions value is rounded to the nearest whole number
- Result is displayed in kilograms (kg) of CO₂
This formula accounts for the different carbon intensities of various fuel types, with diesel producing the highest emissions per liter and CNG the lowest. The calculator uses the standard automotive efficiency measure (L/100km) to determine total fuel consumption based on distance traveled.
